Upcoming Events

Night of the Living Ales

October 31st, Halloween Night, The Broken Barrel Tavern will be offering it’s first annual “Night of the Living Ales”  featuring a minimum of 30 sour ales!

Details to come, but we will be featuring Berliner Weiss (and hopefully by then some Florida Weiss!), Flanders Red & Brown Ale, Lambic and American Wild Ales!  This is going to be a massive event, so prepare accordingly and when the time comes, we’ll likely hook up with a hotel for a discounted rate for all those looking to get the most out of this rare event!

We started collecting beers to offer for this several months ago, and we’re not done yet!

Cheers!

Kevin E Menard
Chief Sampler, The Broken Barrel Tavern

AHA Big Brew

The Big Brew will be taking place on November 2nd this year. Keep an eye out for further details on when and how you can participate in this event.

Officer Elections

Have you ever wondered what goes into making our monthly parties and Commander SAAZ such a success?

Do you new ideas that you think could benefit the club?

Would you like to help decide what events the club participates in? (Such as the trip to Tampa for Hunahpu Day)

Does meeting once a month to talk about beer….while drinking beer…..interest you?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, then becoming a SAAZ officer may be a good fit for you!

Our Officer elections take place every year at the December Member Meeting. Please contact any current officer if you would like to be placed on the ballot. Current officer positions are:

President
1st Vice President
2nd Vice President
Secretary
Newsletter Editor/Webmaster

Attention Members

We realize that the beer you provide for events such as those above does not magically appear and cost you nothing. Therefore, SAAZ will be implementing a new policy to help reimburse you for the beer you bring to events.

1/2 keg – $20
Full keg – $40

All reimbursement requests can be given to the Treasurer.

SUNSHINE CHALLENGE – Nov. 1st & 2nd

Comfort Inn & Suites
626 Lee Road, Orlando, FL

Not since, last year has the struggle to maintain a boil in the rampant insanity of home brewing and competing for best of show been captured and culminated in such an epic event of absurd and outrageous proportions. Enter your choice concoction, come enjoy and have a home brew. This is an action packed, beer filled weekend, you will not want to miss!

The Central Florida Home Brewers are proud to present the 23rd Annual Sunshine Challenge Beer Competition and Festival. The Sunshine Challenge is a 2-day event combining a wide variety of activities in the Central Florida Home Brewers club homebrew competition.

The Sunshine Challenge appeals to both the home brewer and the craft beer enthusiast. Feature Sunshine events include a Friday Night Beer Festival, an adventurous Saturday Afternoon Pub Crawl and Saturday Night Awards Dinner.

Sunshine Challenge 2013 will kick off with the commencement of judging at 9 am on Friday, November 1st and end with the awards ceremony the evening of Saturday, November 2nd. There is a lot more that will be happening at the hotel. After the judging on Friday, the Sunshine Challenge celebrates beer tasting with an amazing Beer Festival. Dinner will be included in the Festival ticket price of admission.
The fun continues on Saturday! Gold pass attendees are welcome to a special seminar with our Guest of Honor, Oscar Wong of Highland Brewing. In the afternoon there is a Pub-Crawl with a motor coach picking up crawlers at the Comfort Inn & Suites hotel’s front door and returning them just in time for a short of rest before the Awards Banquet on Saturday night.

Brewers who want to enter the beer competition, will want to read about the deadlines and registration guideline here on the CFHB.org website.

Check out the homebrewers association website for a list of the 2013 club-only competitions on the schedule.
