Blow off from the Prez

Well, it’s officially halfway through the year and things are starting to heat up – literally.  I hope by the time this newsletter gets to you, we will have more information about getting entries together for CASK’s First Coast Cup.  If not, look for another email real soon.  Then before you know it, we will be in the midst of Commander SAAZ Interplanetary Homebrew Blastoff mayhem!  I’m really looking forward to this year’s event, and can’t stress enough how much help we will need. I’ve seen new faces at every meeting this month – so I know there are a lot of new energetic members, as well as the ones who we have counted on for decades.  This year’s will truly be a blast!

In other news, we will be returning to the Broken Barrel Tavern for one more meeting this year before football takes over the back room on the weekends.  We are in the process of hashing out locations for the August and September meetings right now as well.  Then after September, we will be having a good ol’ time for the rest of the year!  We’ve got the SAAZtoberfest the weekend after Commander SAAZ Interplanetary Homebrew Blastoff, and I’m already trying to convince Dave Webb to host the MEADing in November again.

That’s about all that’s new around here.  Unfortunately, I will be out of town for the July meeting, but you will be in good hands, and good food, and good beer, and good company…

— Cheers, Sean.

Secretary’s Report

The summer of 2011 brought forth high temperatures, but it didn’t keep Saaz members from enjoying a great selection of beer. This year’s summer party had a record number of 14 kegs brought in by members to be considered for the Lawnmower beer. For those of you not aware of the competition, it’s basically a friendly competition amongst SAAZ members to see who has made the best beer for sipping on those hot summer days. This year’s winner was a jointly made beer by Drew and Adam. Despite the heat, all those that attended had a great selection of beers and a nice cold swimming pool to enjoy – all the while rocking out to a music selection put together by Kip. A big thanks goes out to Chet for allowing us to enjoy the party at his home. Thanks to everyone who attended and made the party the event to remember!
— Alex
