Two very important items will be voted on at the SAAZ Holiday Party – 2015 Officer Elections and Approval of the Bylaws Changes.

2015 SAAZ Officer Ballot – nominations will be accepted in person at the party or can be submitted to Dan.

Proposed Bylaw Changes

It’s been awhile since the Bylaws have been updated. This has been an ongoing project for the board. The changes reflect the way we are currently running the club. We have moved some items from the Bylaws to Policies to allow for easier changes by the board. Please look them over and let Dave know if you have any  questions. Copies will be available at the Holiday Party for your review and also posted online.

SAAZ Intraclub Brew Challenge

SAAZ has starting a quarterly Intraclub Brew Challenge. We would like to encourage more brewing in the club and provide more feedback to our brewers. Each quarter the club will announce the challenge ingredient/style and requirements.

RULES:

1) Must be a current SAAZ Member with 2015 Dues paid.

2) Sign-up for the challenge at a meeting – General or Officer. The supplies for each challenge are limited and to keep things fair for all we will not accept sign-ups at any other time.

3) Must pick up special ingredient at a SAAZ Meeting (General or Officer), we will not make special arrangements to deliver items.

4) Bring 6 – 12 oz bottles or a 64 oz growler of your beer to the designated meeting for judging.hoppy guy

5) SAAZ will provide a prize for the winner of the challenge. We also encourage you to enter into upcoming homebrew competitions to win even more!

6) If you fail to participate in a challenge it will affect your ability to partake in future challenges.

CHALLENGE #1 – HOPPY NEW YEAR!

Remember the goal of the challenge is to feature the new Mandarina Bavaria hops in your brew. The winner will be selected by a panel of BJCP Judges. 

CHALLENGE #2 – SWEET AS HONEY

Brew something with honey – beer, mead or cider. The goal is to feature honey in your brew. All styles welcome. Signups start at Christmas Party. We have 12 spots for the challenge and each brewer will receive 1lb of Webb’s World Famous Honey. Winner will be selected at the Spring Party.

If you want to be included in all the fun events SAAZ has coming up, it’s time to renew your membership. Some of the upcoming events and brew challenges are only open to currently paid 2015 members. SAAZ Brewer of the Year

Congratulations to Sean Gregg – Beer Winner and Andrew Carpenter – Mead/Cider Winner

Prizes will be awarded at the SAAZ Holiday Party. BEER Winner receives a $50 Brock’s Gift Card and Mead/Cider Winner gets 1 Gallon of Webb’s Famous Orange Blossom Honey. Are you a little jealous? Then you better get brewing and enter your beers, meads and ciders in the Florida Circuit. The brew challenge should get you started off. Good luck!

Last year we raised $5000 for St. Baldrick’s, kept $3200 for the club and  hope to do better this year!

The SAAZ Library is full of great books and magazines to help make you a better brewer. You can view the entire list of publications here. If you see something that interests you, simply send an email to the librarian with your name and the publication title, and the Librarian will bring it to the next monthly member meeting.

If you have borrowed an item from the library this year, please return it to Sonia ASAP.
