If you didn&#8217;t have the pleasure of attending, my apologies. The Cocoa Beach Brewing Company opened their doors just for us. There was a good turn out from Saaz members and the facility was filled with people. Our President, Mr. Sean Gregg, gave an interesting brief lecture about the use of hops and the various hops types. The club even had the pleasure of adding several new members. As secretary, I decided to start taking pictures of the meetings. As Commander SAAZ entries arrive, we would need you to sort and store them for later judging. The entries typically take up rack space 16&#8242; wide and 6&#8242; tall. This won&#8217;t last long!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Beer Education<\/h2>\n<h3>Growing Your Own Hops (from morebeer.com)<\/h3>\n<p>Growing your own hops at home is easy, fun, and very rewarding &#8211; especially if you brew your own beer at home. Hop Vines grow from a rhizome, which is essentially a piece of root taken from a larger, mature plant. The rhizome is planted in the ground in the late spring and small, green shoots pop out of the ground a few weeks later. A hop vine can be very vigorous, growing up to 2&#8242; per week till the end of June when growth slows down and the plant enters into flowering stage.<\/p>\n<h3>When and How to Order Hop Rhizomes<\/h3>\n<p>Hop Rhizomes are available once per year, typically in March\/April, after the farms dig up the rhizomes and ship them to suppliers. Pre-sales start in February and allows you to order the hop rhizomes in advance to make sure you can get the varieties you want. When you receive your hop rhizomes in the mail, keep them refrigerated (but not below freezing) and well ventilated until your soil is ready for planting.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/morebeer.com\/content\/growing-hops\">Continue Reading&#8230;<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Cooking with Beer<\/h2>\n<h3>Beer Cheese Dip Recipe<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">INGREDIENTS:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>2 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese, at room temperature \/ softened<\/li>\n<li>1 package (1 ounce) ranch dressing dry mix<\/li>\n<li>2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese<\/li>\n<li>1 to 3 tsp chili powder (I prefer chipotle) depending on taste<\/li>\n<li>1 beer<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">DIRECTIONS:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In a medium bowl, combine cream cheese and dressing mix. Mix thoroughly.<\/li>\n<li>Stir in Cheddar cheese, and then the chili powder (to taste &#8211; remember some chili will strengthen as the cheese dip sits).<\/li>\n<li>At this point you should have a lumpy mess.<\/li>\n<li>Take a taste of the cheese mixture and beer together to be sure they compliment each other.<\/li>\n<li>Slowly add the beer, a little at a time, until the desired consistency and flavor is reached.\u00a0 You can have anything from a thick spread to a scoopable dip depending on the amount of beer added.<\/li>\n<li>Half a bottle will give you something between a dip and a spread.\u00a0 Be sure to take your time with this step.\u00a0 You can always add more beer later.<\/li>\n<li>Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 3 hours, but overnight would be better.\u00a0 Let this warm up a little before serving.<\/li>\n<li>Serve with chips or pretzels, on bagels, or as a topping for burgers and steak sandwiches.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Equipment For Sale<\/h2>\n<p>These items are typically offered for sale by club members.
