We will be judging Mead made from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.webbshoney.com\/\">Webb&#8217;s Honey<\/a> for the final Intraclub Challenge for the year, so if you received honey for the mead challenge remember your entries.<\/p>\n<p>Our gracious host Dave has invited us to his home in PSJ. Directions\/address will be available via email to current members. There is a pool if you want to take a swim!<\/p>\n<p>Everyone attending the Christmas party is asked to bring a side dish to share (as well as any homebrew you want to bring). The main course is being provided!<\/p>\n<p>Also, there will be a a raffle and a Christmas Beer exchange so bring a wrapped bomber or six pack of commercial beer (value $ 10-15) to the meeting if you&#8217;d like to participate in the exchange.<\/p>\n<p>Please reply to the Facebook post on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/310578462413641\/\">SAAZ Members group<\/a> with what side dish or dessert you\u2019ll be bringing.\u00a0 If you&#8217;re not on Facebook you can respond with your side dish by emailing <a href=\"mailto:saaz@saaz.org\">saaz@saaz.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Also, feel free to bring along other homebrew to share.<\/p>\n<p>This is a family friendly event and all ages are welcome. Must be 21 to consume alcohol.<\/p>\n<p>Don&#8217;t forget it is also time to <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">renew your membership for 2018<\/span>. This event is free for members. We would like to encourage more brewing in the club and provide more feedback to our brewers. Each quarter the club will announce the challenge ingredient\/style and requirements.<\/p>\n<p>RULES:<br \/>\n1) Must be a current SAAZ\u00a0Member with 2017 Dues paid.<br \/>\n2) Sign-up for the challenge at a meeting &#8211; General or Officer. The supplies for each challenge are limited and to keep things fair for all we will not accept sign-ups at any other time.<br \/>\n3) Must pick up special ingredient at a SAAZ\u00a0Meeting (General or Officer), we will not make special arrangements to deliver items.<br \/>\n4) Bring 6 &#8211; 12 oz bottles or a 64 oz growler of your beer to the designated meeting for judging.<br \/>\n5) SAAZ\u00a0will provide a prize for the winner of the challenge. We also encourage you to enter into upcoming homebrew competitions to win even more!<br \/>\n6) If you fail to participate in a challenge it will affect your ability to partake in future challenges.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CHALLENGE #1 &#8211; Hop Salad<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For this challenge participants blindly picked three ounces of mystery hops and designed a beer around them, any style of their choosing. \u00a0Entries for this challenge were judged at our January meeting at Coasters. \u00a0The winner of this Challenge was Billy Dawson with a California Common.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CHALLENGE #2 &#8211; IRISH you were Beer!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Starting in January we began giving brewers Kent Goldings hops to use in their next brew. Beers for this Challenge must be from BJCP Category 15 &#8211; 15A Irish Red Ale, 15B Irish Stout or 15C Irish Extra Stout. The winner of this Challenge was Dan Shirah with an Irish Extra Stout.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CHALLENGE #3 &#8211;\u00a0Fruit Challenge<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Starting at the Spring Party interested club members can draw a fruit\u00a0to use in their next brew. \u00a0Entries will be judged at the\u00a0Summer Party this Saturday, June 17. \u00a0And the winner of this challenge was Eric Essenwein with a Lime Wheat beer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CHALLENGE #4 &#8211;\u00a0Operation Festbier<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Starting at the July meeting interested club members can pick up some noble hops (limited supply) to be used in a German style beer. \u00a0Entries will be judged at SAAZtoberfest.<br \/>\nThe winner of this challenge was Chris Jojola with a Maibock.\u00a0 Congrats, Chris!<\/p>\n<p><strong>CHALLENGE #5 &#8211;\u00a0Cooking with Beer!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Judging for this challenge will take place at the meeting on November 19th at World of Beer.<br \/>\nThis challenge was broken down into two categories, savory and sweet.\u00a0 The winners of this challenge were:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Brian Cavins, savory dish, IPA Braised Pork Belly<\/li>\n<li>Kip Cadoret, sweet dish,\u00a0Southern Tier Mocha Bread Pudding and Southern Tier ice cream<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>CHALLENGE #6 &#8211;\u00a0MEAD<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Judging for this challenge will take place at the MEADing on December 16th.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><strong>Upcoming Competitions \u2013 showcase your award winning homebrew!<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Check out the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.homebrewersassociation.org\/aha-events\/calendar\/?event_id=16\">American Homebrewers Association website<\/a>\u00a0for a complete list of upcoming competitions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Big Bend Brew Off \u2013 January 19-20, 2018*<br \/>\n<\/strong>Tallahassee, FL<br \/>\nRegistration window: December\u00a01, 2017 &#8211; January 6, 2018<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/bbbo.nfbl.org\/\">http:\/\/bbbo.nfbl.org\/<\/a><br \/>\n*This competition is not certified and is NOT reimbursable<strong><\/p>\n<p>Coconut Cup \u2013 March 2-3, 2018<\/strong><br \/>\nDoral, FL<br \/>\nEntry window: January 8-February 1, 2018<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/miami-homebrew.org\/2018-coconut-cup\/\">http:\/\/miami-homebrew.org\/2018-coconut-cup\/<\/a><br \/>\nSAAZ members can bring entries to our January meeting.<\/p>\n<p>Policy: SAAZ\u00a0will reimburse entry payments for Florida circuit competitions, up to 2 per brewer (4 for Commander SAAZ).
