During the meeting you can go ahead and pay your 2018 dues and and submit nominations for next year’s SAAZ officers.<\/p>\n

This is a family friendly event and all ages are welcome. Must be 21 to consume alcohol.<\/p>\n

\n

Officer Elections<\/strong><\/p>\n

Just a reminder, officer elections for 2018 will be taking place in December at the Christmas Party\/Meading.\u00a0 Start thinking of members to nominate for any of the officer positions.\u00a0 If you can’t remember what the positions are, check the bottom of this newsletter.<\/p>\n

SAAZ\u00a0Intraclub Brew Challenge
\n<\/strong>SAAZ quarterly Intraclub Brew Challenges will continue in 2017. We would like to encourage more brewing in the club and provide more feedback to our brewers. Each quarter the club will announce the challenge ingredient\/style and requirements.<\/p>\n

RULES:
\n1) Must be a current SAAZ\u00a0Member with 2017 Dues paid.
\n2) Sign-up for the challenge at a meeting – General or Officer. The supplies for each challenge are limited and to keep things fair for all we will not accept sign-ups at any other time.
\n3) Must pick up special ingredient at a SAAZ\u00a0Meeting (General or Officer), we will not make special arrangements to deliver items.
\n4) Bring 6 – 12 oz bottles or a 64 oz growler of your beer to the designated meeting for judging.
\n5) SAAZ\u00a0will provide a prize for the winner of the challenge. We also encourage you to enter into upcoming homebrew competitions to win even more!
\n6) If you fail to participate in a challenge it will affect your ability to partake in future challenges.<\/p>\n

CHALLENGE #1 – Hop Salad<\/p>\n

For this challenge participants blindly picked three ounces of mystery hops and designed a beer around them, any style of their choosing. \u00a0Entries for this challenge were judged at our January meeting at Coasters. \u00a0The winner of this Challenge was Billy Dawson with a California Common.<\/p>\n

CHALLENGE #2 – IRISH you were Beer!<\/p>\n

Starting in January we began giving brewers Kent Goldings hops to use in their next brew. Beers for this Challenge must be from BJCP Category 15 – 15A Irish Red Ale, 15B Irish Stout or 15C Irish Extra Stout. The winner of this Challenge was Dan Shirah with an Irish Extra Stout.<\/p>\n

CHALLENGE #3 –\u00a0Fruit Challenge<\/p>\n

Starting at the Spring Party interested club members can draw a fruit\u00a0to use in their next brew. \u00a0Entries will be judged at the\u00a0Summer Party this Saturday, June 17. \u00a0And the winner of this challenge was Eric Essenwein with a Lime Wheat beer.<\/p>\n

CHALLENGE #4 –\u00a0Operation Festbier<\/p>\n

Starting at the July meeting interested club members can pick up some noble hops (limited supply) to be used in a German style beer. \u00a0Entries will be judged at SAAZtoberfest.
\nThe winner of this challenge was Chris Jojola with a Maibock.\u00a0 Congrats, Chris!<\/p>\n

CHALLENGE #5 –\u00a0Cooking with Beer!<\/p>\n

Judging for this challenge will take place at the meeting on November 19th at World of Beer.<\/p>\n

CHALLENGE #6 –\u00a0MEAD<\/p>\n

Judging for this challenge will take place at the MEADing on December 16th.<\/p>\n

Commander SAAZ!!!<\/strong><\/p>\n

Woof, Wag and Wiggle

This is an annual event that has gone on for years, hosted by Coastal Boxer Rescue.\u00a0 For the first time SAAZ will be supporting this event.\u00a0 We will have a table where we will be serving samples of homebrew.\u00a0 If you’re able to brew up a beer for this event, or attend and help serve, please let one of our officers know.\u00a0 If nothing else you’re welcome to come out and enjoy the event, bring your dog(s) and check out the awesome raffle and silent auction items.<\/p>\n
