{"id":183,"date":"2010-06-09T14:28:00","date_gmt":"2010-06-09T19:28:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saaz.org\/cms\/?p=183"},"modified":"2013-08-11T12:34:37","modified_gmt":"2013-08-11T17:34:37","slug":"june-2010-newsletter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saaz.org\/cms\/june-2010-newsletter\/","title":{"rendered":"June 2010 Newsletter"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!--more--><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Blow off from the Prez<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Welcome to the\u00a0June\u00a0edition of Blow off from the Prez.\u00a0\u00a0This past month was crammed full of great events, and June is shaping up to be just as fun.\u00a0 The Hogtown Blowoff was last month, and SAAZ member Dave Webb came home with multiple medals for his meads.\u00a0 In case you missed it, he made a wonderful chocolate mead.\u00a0 The next competition in the Florida Circuit is the CASK (Jacksonville) First Coast Cup.\u00a0\u00a0They have a special\u00a0&#8220;Big Wood&#8221; category for wood-aged beers with an original gravity of 1.070 or greater.\u00a0Entries are due\u00a0July 5th through July 16th, so there is plenty of time to brew.\u00a0 Stay tuned for more details.<\/p>\n<p>Some upcoming events you might want to check out this month are the beer and cheese pairing at World of Beer on June 15th\u00a0sponsored by Southampton and Sunseed Food Co-op.\u00a0 Chris at Florida Wine and Spirits is working to put on a Sierra Nevada tasting, as well as a Brooklyn tasting.\u00a0 Check out their website or join their mailing list to keep up with the latest information.<\/p>\n<p>In case you missed it, the last meeting was at\u00a0The Broken Barrel in Palm Bay.\u00a0\u00a0We presented, sampled, and discussed the\u00a0similarities and differences of the\u00a0American Pale Ale and Double IPA.\u00a0 The beers we sampled were Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and Lagunitas Hop Stoopid.\u00a0\u00a0If you have any ideas (or would like to volunteer) for educational topics for upcoming meetings, please let us know.<\/p>\n<p>Our next meeting is the Summer Party at Chet and Sonya\u2019s in Titusville.\u00a0 For the newer members, this is one great event!\u00a0 The club will be providing Santa Maria Tri-Tip and asks that each member bring a side dish and a bag of ice for the beer engine.\u00a0 There is also the annual lawnmower beer contest.\u00a0 Exactly as it sounds, the members vote on the best lawnmower beer that was brought.\u00a0 There will also one heck of a raffle!<\/p>\n<p>Continue to read further for more information about the things I mentioned.\u00a0 I will see you all at the\u00a0Summer Party!<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Next Meeting<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This month\u2019s meeting\u00a0is the Summer Party at Chet and Sonya\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>Saturday\u00a0June 19, 2010 at\u00a0noon-ish.\u00a0 Setup starts 10:30<\/p>\n<p>2945 Dairy Rd<br \/>\nTitusville, FL 32796<\/p>\n<p>So What To Bring To This Shindig?<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Beer<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Side Dishes<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 ICE<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Bathing Suit and Towel<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Lawnmower Beer for judging<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Lawn Chairs<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Swimsuits &amp; Towels<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Friends &amp; Family<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Oh Yeah, and BEER!<\/p>\n<p>I-95 Directions<\/p>\n<p>Take I-95 toward Titusville (This should be North for most of our members). Get off at Exit 220 (SR 406 or Garden Street) and turn right. At the first stoplight (Singleton) take a left and follow it for about a mile and a half to the next stop light and then turn right onto Dairy Road. Chet\u2019s house is a brown brick about half a mile down on the right hand side (2945 Dairy Rd.)<\/p>\n<p>US-1 Directions<\/p>\n<p>Assuming you are coming from south Brevard, take US-1 north to Titusville. Drive all the way through Titusville. You will pass Searstown mall, Miracle City Mall, and Garden street (SR 406). Keep going until you see Parrish Hospital on your right hand side. The next light past the hospital is Dairy road. Take a left onto Dairy and follow it to the first light (Old Dixie Hwy). From here stay on Dairy for another half mile and you will see Chet\u2019s house on the left. It\u2019s a brown brick house and the address is 2945 Dairy Rd.<\/p>\n<p>Chet asks that we all park in the back until it\u2019s full. Then the overflow can go out front. There is a small fenced area between the house and the pool. Please keep the gates closed so that none of the guests, or the dogs, escape. All classes include specific wines for you to taste to help enhance the learning process. The Wine 101 Series will kick off this month as Chris teaches you the basics of wine and how to taste wine like one of the pros. This class will lay down the foundation for the rest of his classes, so this is one you don\u2019t want to miss!<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">World of Beer<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Southampton Beer and Cheese Pairing<\/p>\n<p>June 15<sup>th<\/sup>, 2010 at 5:00 pm. This event will show case three beers from<\/p>\n<p>Southampton and they will be paired with three cheeses from<\/p>\n<p>Sunseed Food Co-op. This is a great event to support more than one<\/p>\n<p>great establishment.<\/p>\n<p>Another great event going on is the WOB World Cup 2010.<\/p>\n<p>Every Game will be televised and shown at WOB with special drink special<\/p>\n<p>for the countries playing and on going specials. Check out the link below.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/viera.wobusa.com\/events.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/viera.wobusa.com\/events.aspx<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Beerworks Charitable Foundation, Inc<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mark Carbone (Treasure Coast Brewers)\u00a0and a few &#8216;beer-buddies&#8217; formed a non-profit organization called &#8216;Beerworks Charitable Foundation, Inc&#8217;.\u00a0\u00a0They\u00a0have organized two Beer Fests so far and have raised over $20,000 for charity in the last two Beer Fest events.\u00a0 Last year\u2019s event featured over 150 craft beers and over 600 attendees, many from outside the Treasure Coast like PB, Broward, Brevard, etc.<\/p>\n<p>With the success of those two events in mind,\u00a0they\u00a0are now in the process of organizing the &#8216;THIRD&#8217; to be held on Sept 11, 2010.<\/p>\n<p>He is extending an invitation to\u00a0our club to join in serving your homebrews if you wish.\u00a0 The Treasure Coast BrewMasters have attended for the last two years with about six beers on tap, and received an extremely great response.\u00a0Even if we\u00a0cannot\u00a0make it\u00a0as a club,\u00a0if there are\u00a0some members that would like to volunteer to help &#8216;pour&#8217; at other vendor tables, please\u00a0let me know and I will get them on the list of volunteers.\u00a0 We need to let them know by\u00a0the end of July if\u00a0we\u00a0can make it.\u00a0 Please email me if you are interested in helping pour or attending as a club.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">***Beer News<\/span><\/strong> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"> <\/span><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Beer News<\/span><\/strong> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"> <\/span><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Beer News**<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">New Beers in\u00a0Florida<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>J W Dundee 12 Pack Multi-Pack 4 different beer, 3 of each India Pale ale, Pale Bock Lager, Stout and Kolsch-Style Ale<\/p>\n<p>J W Dundee Summer Wheat Ale This is there first time with this Summer Wheat.
