Commander SAAZ

Interplanetary Homebrew Blastoff

CSAAZ New

Commander SAAZ Interplanetary Homebrew Blastoff is the homebrew competition hosted by SAAZ every fall. This year’s event was held September 20th, 2014 at the Cocoa Beach Hilton.

The 20th Commander SAAZ was a HUGE success as the largest homebrew competition ever in the state of Florida. We had 938 registered entries and judged 770 entries! Thank you to all the help getting this task completed. Without you this wouldn’t be the best competition in the universe!

If you have any questions, comments, suggestions, feedback, want to help next year, pictures to share, anything Commander SAAZ related… please email our 1st VP cmdr.saaz@saaz.org.

Upcoming SAAZ Officer Elections

SAAZ Meetings and Events don’t happen by themselves, they take a team of amazing officers to plan these fun activities.om beer

Have you ever wondered what goes into making our monthly parties and Commander SAAZ such a success? Do you new ideas that you think could benefit the club? Would you like to help decide what events the club participates in? (Such as the trip to Tampa for Hunahpu Day) Does meeting once a month to talk about beer….while drinking good beer…..interest you?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, then becoming a SAAZ officer is a good fit for you!

Our Officer Elections take place every year at the Christmas Party. Please contact the secretary Dan Shirah if you would like to be placed on the ballot or have a nomination. Ballot will be updated as nominations are received, check here for updates.

Officer Positions: Feel free to contact the current officer to discuss their duties and time commitments associated with the office.

Announcing SAAZ Intraclub Brew Challenge

New for 2015 SAAZ is starting a quarterly Intraclub Brew Challenge. We would like to encourage more brewing in the club and provide more feedback to our brewers. Each quarter the club will announce the challenge ingredient/style and requirements. Members will need to sign up to participate since SAAZ will be providing a special ingredient. Brewers will then have 3 months to brew the beer and then bring to a meeting for feedback and competition. Prizes will be awarded.

CHALLENGE #1 – HOPPY NEW YEAR! hoppy guy

Get your hops sacks ready and your boil kettles clean!  SAAZ has purchased a limited amount of a new hop variety and will be giving it away to our club members!  Here are the details: Starting at our SAAZtoberfest party on October 25th, SAAZ members who have paid their 2015 dues are eligible to receive up to 5 oz of German Mandarina Bavaria pellet hops.  Members can then brew a batch of beer featuring these new hops; any beer style you choose, from a pilsner to a pale ale to a saison.  Then, at our January meeting, we will have some expert beer judges (Hey Mac, Hey Don) evaluate the beers.  These hops were bred at the Hop Research Institute in Hull and released in 2012.  The aroma is described as distinct tangerine and citrus flavors.  Feel free to use other ingredients and hops, but the key here is to feature these hops as the showcase of the beer.  The amount of hops is limited, and they will be available on a first come, first serve basis, per the guidelines above.  Now get ready to do some brewing!
